The k8 project was effectively a Java SE 8 operating system and as such all of the notes are in the context of that scope. That project is no longer my goal as SquirrelJME is the spiritual successor to it.

Shunning and removing the DO NOT USE THIS branch saved me about 34KB in the database. And removing lines containing only whitespace caused the compressed archived checkout to go up slightly for the tb2 archive, although the others remained the same. Doing it also did bloat the resulting repository though by about a tenth of a MiB. Shunning is considered bad, but that revision was a mistake and there is no sense in it existing for the most part.

I will need to simplify the compiler because right now even in its very minimal state looks rather ugly.

I need a PushbackIterator and a NoSuchReplaceIterator for the tokenizer. The pushback is self explanatory (puts stuff back into the iterator for next). and the replace is for catching NoSuchElementException and just returning a prespecified value instead (hasNext() would still return false).

The good thing about object orientation is that it makes implementing things a bit easier.

Seems this super tokenizer will be a bit better and stronger for my needs and it can hide some things in the compilation stuff.

My kernel will need a recompiler for Java byte code, so I need to have a separate class loader and a intermediary support ring, otherwise I will have to include a very bulky compiler with the kernel which would not be lean. Another thing I can do at least with the pre-compiler is branch limited optimizations. That is, say a CPU assembler supports tons of different CPUs, the compiler when making native code could in essence just optimize out certain values. So say if the target system is the Nintendo 64. The compiler in general would support multiple different MIPS systems, but on the N64 the resulting code path would be useless so it could be glitched out.

I believe the compiler is going to end up being way more complex than it needs to be. All I need something that can turn Java or C code into an intermediate form which could then be turned into something else. And I need to code it in a way so that there is no duplicate code so that it could be reused by the kernel for JIT compilation when needed.

With new simpler binary code, I can remove the binary format stuff. Then on top of that I can add class file support. Right now my normal compiler which does not do much, stands at about 3400 lines of code.
