DISCLAIMER: These notes are from the defunct k8 project which precedes SquirrelJME. The notes for SquirrelJME start on 2016/02/26! The k8 project was effectively a Java SE 8 operating system and as such all of the notes are in the context of that scope. That project is no longer my goal as SquirrelJME is the spiritual successor to it.

Decided to give gradle another go, although it takes a minute to start when I want to build something. Managed to get a config to work sort of but it does not actually build anything.

01:48

Gradle just does not work, so I am not going to deal with it anymore. The main problem is projects, it seems you must have projects in some funky source location. You can override the compilation stuff supposidly but none of the stuff builds at all.

01:56

Suppose there is one true build system, shell scripts.

02:15

Looks like I am back to building a build system, hairball was nice but it was far too complex and messy. It was also written in a way where it could be run on versions of Java before 8. However 8 is just too nice to cripple the code. Hairball was just too elaborate and gigantic and used all these shell scripts which did JSON first, then switched to a simpler format. Just a mess. Although it did work well. I just need something very specific to compiling the kernel and all of the stuff in it.

I believe I will take a hint from gradle and have the make codes get compiled by the virtual machine so that then they could run and such. This would simplify operation as a project will just be a bunch of commands.

08:43

Something that would work for the C virtual machine to replace makefiles would be simple task sets which can progress and potentially be threaded as needed. So a runnable execution set of sorts, possibly in a giant group too.
