DISCLAIMER: These notes are from the defunct k8 project which precedes SquirrelJME. The notes for SquirrelJME start on 2016/02/26! The k8 project was effectively a Java SE 8 operating system and as such all of the notes are in the context of that scope. That project is no longer my goal as SquirrelJME is the spiritual successor to it.
Very early in the morning or very late at night now. I did get much work done yesterday and the day before. I should clean up those classes a bit of unused imports since they are rather done now.
I am at the point where I can start working on the compiler, although I still need to implement the CompilePool and NamespaceSeeker classes which are used for lookup and concurrency looks when compiling some code. They are used in the sense that you need to know what an import is and such. NamespaceSeeker is special that it must be capable of compiling code in other classpath directories when it needs to be done. Although it does not have to do it, provided it is told to generate those. But there is a javac option for implicit generation of class files from classpath stuff. Although not supporting such a thing would break javac because it is expected behavior to sort of put code all over the place.
In my compiler code, I could support older versions of Java as a source version, however Java is backwards compatible. Any code that is legal in 1.5 would be legal in 1.8, however a source version of 1.5 would disable any new features which were added. Supporting ancient versions by disabling new stuff complicates the compiler.
A stack based compiler would work best since I can expect certain things.
Perhaps a demo game of Advance Wars would be better, since it could work on a console without a graphical server. It is very simple for the most part.
Actually before I can continue the compiler work, I must implement building of any dependent packages which are possibly used by the compiler. That would also mean adding a ZipBeacon to read from JAR files.
Just realized that for recursive action I always use the word "recourse" when I know it is incorrect.
Now that I have that recursion stuff, I can continue work on the compiler since that is all I can pretty do at this point.
