DISCLAIMER: These notes are from the defunct k8 project which precedes SquirrelJME. The notes for SquirrelJME start on 2016/02/26! The k8 project was effectively a Java SE 8 operating system and as such all of the notes are in the context of that scope. That project is no longer my goal as SquirrelJME is the spiritual successor to it.


Now to work on NARF being switched over to the slightly different compiler logic code.


This new compiler-logic code does seem much better, splitting the SSA stuff up feels nicer as it is not all crunched together and needlessly complex.


Now the Java translator is converted, next to do is the PowerPC one.


Now the PowerPC compiler has been converted (that was rather fast to do). However I must consume nutrients and then do some real life things. When I return I just need to go back and handle some TODOs such as method invocation generation in the code. Then after that I will be returning to code generation where I was before with register allocation. However this time it should be easier to code because of the potential for a better API and such.


One thing I cannot do is when creating registers for usage is to cache them for one. Another thing is that I do not want to give all the native registers to the allocator because some are special purpose usage and such.


Looks like I already did the native register bits, not using the reserved ones that is.


This new code I am writing is inspired by my Java Stack tread, which I named my VRA stuff after it, hence VRATread. However it is more split than the JavaStack class and is a Map instead of a List since the slots are not exactly in a linear sequence at all, although they be.


Another thing I need along with allocate is spill, so that registers and such can be spilled when needed. Of course the spill method will be called by the allocator to simplify things too.
